This year’s NCK-days will be held from March 13 till March 16 at the University of Twente. Herewith we would like to invite you to participate in this edition of the NCK-days.
As we are celebrating the 4th lustrum of NCK this year, the program looks slightly different than other years. After 20 years of coastal research, it is time to (re)consider the past and plan for the future. In order to put Dutch coastal research in an international context, we invited renown international speakers on a number of key topics in coastal research. We are honoured to announce that there will be six invited key-note speakers from all over the world:
- Catherine Villaret
EDF R&D, Laboratoire National d’Hydraulique et Environnement
Université Paris Est, Saint Venant Laboratory for Hydraulics
- Patrick Hesp
Louisiana State University , Department of Geography and Anthropology
- David Huntley
Plymouth University, School of Marine Science and Engineering
- Anne Kox
University of Amsterdam, Institute for Theoretical Physics
- Iris Möller
University of Cambridge, Department of Geography
- Tom O’Donoghue
University of Aberdeen, Institute of Environmental & Industrial Fluid Mechanics
Next to these key-notes, there will be presentations on the state-of-the-art of coastal research in the Netherlands. We were glad to receive abstracts from over 30 authors. Short-papers by these authors and the key-note speakers will be published in the special NCK-Jubilee Conference Proceedings, together with essays on the past and future of coastal research in the Netherlands and retrospections on the accomplishments of NCK’s partner institutions.
To end these NCK-days in an accordingly festive manner, the organizing committee planned for a boat trip on the Ems-Dollard Estuary (in collaboration with the WaddenAcademy). The excursion will start in Delfzijl where the harbour is extending rapidly. The boat will take us from Delfzijl all the way upstream to Papenburg or Leer. During the trip, experts will explain what hydro- and morphodynamic processes are seen while moving from the Dollard estuary into the Ems river.
