Bringing Dutch Historical Coastal Data to the 21st Century
Theme Day – 8 October 2025 – Wereldmuseum Leiden
What can we still learn from coastal data collected decades, or even centuries, ago? This NCK theme day brings together researchers, archivists, and coastal professionals to explore the potential of historical sources in today’s research. From tide measurements to old maps and handwritten records, we’ll discuss how to find, interpret, and apply these materials in a modern context. The day will feature a series of talks from a range of disciplines, followed by a plenary discussion on how we can move forward in making better use of historical data in coastal science and management.
