twente university icoonNCK-member Bas Borsje is one of the 25 nominees for the title 'New Scientist Science Talent 2016', a competition for the best science talent in Netherlands and Flanders! Bas focusses on coastal protection by soft/natural structures like salt marshes and mangrove forests and he investigates the load by tides and waves on those soft structures. This structures are cheaper and more climate proof than traditional coastal protection measures like dams and dikes. twentelogoSuzanne Hulscher has been awarded the Simon Stevin Mastery 2016 by the Dutch Technology Foundation STW.

The Simon Stevin Mastery (Simon Stevin Meesterschap) concerns an exceptional title of respect awarded only to outstanding technical-scientists. Among others prof. dr. Suzanne Hulscher receives this honor for outstanding innovative work in the areas of river-systems and coastal seas.

This most prominent award for technical research will be delivered to our NCK member at the STW annual congress on 24 November. The prestigious title comes with a 500.000 Euro research grant and a work of art.
