Netherlands Centre for Coastal Research
Invitation for the 1st Christiaan Brunings Lecture: 12 January 2016, 12.30-17.00 hr at Utrecht University
Theme: morphodynamics and sedimentology in estuaries
Estuaries harbour highly productive natural habitats and are of pivotal economic importance for food production, access to harbours and urban safety. Accelerating sea-level rise, changing river discharge and interference threaten these functions, but we lack fundamental understanding and models to predict combined effects of biomorphological interactions, inherited landscape and changing drivers.
Starring:
- keynote lecture prof. James Best (Illinois) on bars and bedforms in the Columbia River estuary
- lecture dr. Jelmer Cleveringa (Arcadis) on bars and bedforms in the Western Scheldt
- Metronome tidal facility demonstration
100 seats available (admission free) for practitioners and scientists working on estuaries

The NCK days 2015, with over 100 attendees, were a great success! The quality of the presentations and posters was high and we would like to thank all speakers and people with poster presentations for their contribution. The book of abstracts is now available for download. Also thanks to Rijkswaterstaat, for organising this edition of the NCK days!
In addition to the the presentations and poster sessions, the traditional Icebreaker, the excursion and a dinner were part of the programme. The Icebreaker included an evening walk to Netherlands' highest coastal dune and we visited the Hondsbossche and Pettemer Sea Defence on Thursday afternoon. The Hondbossche and Pettemer Sea Defence had just been strengthened with an enormeous nourishment. It was nice to see the end result!
